Dr. Rachel T. Graham is the founder and Executive Director of MarAlliance, an international non-profit advancing marine conservation. A scientist with over 30 years of experience across Latin America, Africa, and Oceania, she leads efforts to restore endangered marine wildlife while strengthening local stewardship, sustainable fisheries, and community resilience. Balancing leadership with hands-on fieldwork, Dr. Graham collaborates with fishers and coastal communities to conduct research, build capacity, and drive conservation action in data-poor regions. Her work across 75+ expeditions has yielded innovative science, shifted perceptions of sharks and improved fishing practices. Widely published and featured in media outlets, she has influenced policies protecting marine species and habitats, including Belize’s landmark shark protections. Her accolades include the Whitley Gold Award, Pew Marine Fellowship, Oceana’s Ocean Hero Award, and The Explorer’s Club EC50. Rachel is most proud of her two sea-loving sons and her diverse, talented team at MarAlliance.
